PROF. N. REHA TANDOGAN, M.D.

Reha N. Tandogan, M.D. was born in 1962 in Ankara. He graduated from Hacettepe University Medical School in 1985 with honors, being 4th in his class. He underwent specialty training in Hacettepe University Medical School, Department of Orthopedics & Traumatology, in Ankara. Dr. Tandogan worked as an assistant to  Dr. Gerard Bascoulergue in the Arthroscopy and Sports Traumatology Clinic of Institut Calot (Berck, France) for a year in 1990. He trained with  the late Prof. Dr. Robert W. Jackson, Baylor University, Dallas, Texas in 1993. He  became an associate professor in 1995 and transferred to Baskent University, Dept. of Orthopedics & Traumatology.  He was appointed chairman of the department in 1998 and also undertook the duties of the chairman of the Sport Sciences department in 2001. He became a professor in 2001. Baskent University was recognized as an ISAKOS Approved Teaching Center and hosted several international fellows during his chairmanship. Dr.Tandogan resigned from his university post and has been in private practice since 2007.   Prof. Tandogan is currently a senior member of Çankaya Orthopedics, a 10 surgeon group specializing in sports injuries and joint reconstruction. Dr. Tandogan’s focus areas are arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder and ankle; regenerative medicine and joint preservation in the hip and knee, primary and revision knee, hip and shoulder replacements.

Dr. Tandogan was awarded the International Arthroscopy Association Linvatec Award in 1995.  He has served three terms on the executive board of the Turkish Society of Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy & Knee Surgery) and is currently  the Chair of the Arthroplasty Committee. He was the organizer of the Advanced Arthroscopy Course in Ankara for 6 consecutive terms; he designed and developed several models for hands on arthroscopic teaching. He was the President of the 11th Turkish Sports Traumatology Arthroscopy & Knee Surgery Congress with international participation that took place in Ankara on October 2-6, 2012. Prof. Tandogan  has served two terms as the president of the Turkish Society of Sports Traumatology and has been one of the founders of the Annual Advanced Surgical Techniques in Sports Traumatology Cadaver Course. He is one of the founding members and former president of the Turkish Society of Preventive Hip Surgery.

Dr. Tandogan serves on the board of the Regenerative Medicine Orthopedic Society (RMOS), an international group of experts focusing on orthobiologics and regenerative treatments in musculo-skeletal disorders.

Dr. Tandogan is the president of European Knee Associates Section of ESSKA, (European Society of Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology  & Arthroscopy) focusing on the treatment & education of degenerative knee disorders, knee arthroplasty and joint preservation surgery. European Knee Associates is one of the leading societies in Europe on knee disorders and regularly organizes congresses, instructional courses, fellowship programs; publishes books, scientific papers and consensus statements on knee surgery.

Dr. Tandogan a Scientific Committee member of the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopedics & Traumatology (EFORT) and has served as the National Delegate of Turkey.

Dr. Tandogan is the author of 1 English language  and 10 Turkish books on Knee Surgery & Sports Traumatology. He has published 87 scientific articles in international journals and 76 articles in the Turkish literature. Over 3180 international citations have been made to these papers (h-index 30).

Dr. Tandogan is the Associate Editor of the Knee Surgery Sports Traumatology & Arthroscopy Journal which is the official publication of ESSKA (European Society of  Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery & Arthroscopy) and was awarded the “Best reviewer” of the KSSTA journal award in 2016. He is currently serving as a reviewer/editorial board member of 1 national and 2 international peer reviewed journals. He has also served for 4 years  as the founding editor of Journal of the Turkish Orthopedics & Traumatology Association.

Dr. Tandogan is very active in teaching and education, he lectures extensively in national and international meetings, regularly organizes cadaver courses and symposia. A selection of his activities can be seen in this web site under the tab "Scientific Activities".
